Sharlene Gilbert - Director

Sharlene  started working at the age of 16 years old.  Directly out of High School she was offered a position with the Federal Bureau of prisons as a Legal Instruments Examiner.  Her prior position with the Bank of New York as a Legal Stock Transfer Specialist, qualified her for this position.  She went on to night school where she received her Paralegal Certification and at  the age of 21 she was promoted to  a supervisor position for The Federal Bureau of Prisons.  At  the tender age she had been exposed to more than most people.  She always managed to carry about herself in  a professional manner always caring for others and payed attention to details.  The prison where she worked housed both men and women from every walks of life.  She was assigned a higher level of security clearance which expose her to special inmates.  Her passion and desire was always in law enforcement.  Although she did her job she always cared about others first.  She later went on to night school where she received her degree in Homeland Security and Terrorism Management.  She took a leave of absence from the prison and went to work in the private sector.  She was employed as a Human Resources Generalist where she was responsible for the hiring of hundreds of employees.  She was assigned to Met Life where she had to managed over 120 employees at any given time.  She was responsible for every aspect of human resources.  She returned back to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons where she worked as a Corrections Officer and retired in early 2011.   

Sharlene, grew up in church as a child.  As she became a teen and then a young adult she did not attend church.  However, she she always had a relationship with God.  She always knew God had something special for her but couldn't  identify it.  She prayed and struggled with God for her assignment.  In 2010 she mentioned to someone that she wanted to volenteer for the Re-entry program.  In a matter of a couple of months the Director's position became available.  She knew she was qualified however there were also many others who perhaps wanted the positon.  It wasn't until she saw the job posting and timing could not have been any more perfect, (as is everything that is in Gods hands) she prayed and God answered her prayers with the position offer.  She describes going to the interview and while driving she was having a conversation with God.  She says "You know what the result is already, Why do you have me go through the motion?"  It was a life changing moment for her.  She humbly accepts this position as Director of the Re-entry program of Monroe County and has dedicated all of it to Gods Glory.  She gets her assignment from God...
