Mentor Training

Mentor with the Ex-Offender Re-Entry Program

The Mentoring element begins with a seven-hour training session. A training session is scheduled approximately every four months.

Prospective Mentors are trained in:

  • The basics of mentoring techniques including listening skills.
  • They develop an understanding of what the ex-offender dealt with while incarcerated.
  • They learn how to avoid becoming a victim or an enabler.
  • They learn what resources are available, and how to access them.

Mentors are assigned by gender. As more Mentors are trained, the assignment criteria will include religious denomination and geographic location.
